We sent a package to Olivia! We used a service called
http://www.blessedkids.com/. Adele is the owner of this service. She was born in China, but lives in Texas. She and her husband adopted from China so she is familiar with the process. Her father lives in China and works with her. You can send letters and pictures to Adele through the internet. You can also order gifts that she has put together on her webpage. She translates the letters and sends those and the pictures to her father through the internet. He assembles everything, looks up the address of the orphanage, and delivers everything. We decided to send a letter to the orphanage director and nannies thanking them for their wonderful care of Olivia (expected), a cake for the children and staff, a card/letter to Olivia, 6 photos in a small photo album, and a disposable camera to take pictures until we get there. We were so excited to be able to make this contact with Olivia. But what do you write to a daughter you've never met? After much thought, here is what I wrote...
Dear Qiu Fang,
We hope you and your friends are able to enjoy your cake. We sent it to celebrate that we will be adopting you. We have been waiting a long time to find a little girl just like you and now we found you! You are so beautiful. We are so happy to be your Daddy and Mommy and for you to be our daughter. We will come soon so you can join your forever family. We are sending pictures of your waiting family and the home where we live so you can recognize us when we come for you. We will come as soon as we can.

Great blog, lots of information! Thanks for sharing. I am so excited that you were able to send Olivia a cake and pictures so she'll recognize you. What a perfect letter you wrote. I'm sure that was difficult. So much to say. How does one tell a 4 year old that she now has a new family that already loves her very much?! :) Hey, maybe we'll be following each other's blogs from Asia! :0
