Olivia is getting to be a very good sport about trying new foods. She prefers rice (white only). So we make sure that is available, but we also give her something new to taste. This week, she tried Cheerios, American yogurt (much more jelled--Chinese yogurt is very liquidy--you drink it with a straw), broccoli (steamed with ranch dip), carrots (raw-not so much, steamed are good), corn, peas, brown rice (that is not rice to Olivia), chicken nuggets, Ling-Lings (from Costco--similar to Chinese dumplings), summer sausage, cheese (doesn't like cheese), spaghetti (no sauce please), potatoes (not so much), beef barley soup (after convincing her to try one spoonful, she really liked it), peanut butter and honey/jelly (after convincing her to try one bite, she really liked it. I appreciate her adventurous nature. It sure is helping her to adapt.
We went to church with Olivia today for the first time. All week she talked about how Mommy has friends, Shauna has friends and Angela has friends, but Daddy doesn't have friends, Drake doesn't have friends and Olivia Qiufang doesn't have friends (in Chinese). In the van on the way home from church she said that Olivia Qiufang does have friends.
Her Sunday School class was exciting for the first few minutes (I stayed with her the whole time). I watched as she eventually got overwhelmed by the noise and chaos of not understanding the language (25 very active 3 and 4 year olds). She wanted to clean up all the crayons from all the craft tables when craft time was done. She likes to be industrious. We decided to not go to the worship service because we could see that it would probably be too much for today.
